What is a Life Path Number?
The Life Path Number Calculator derives your numerology life path number directly from your date of birth, following the Western (Pythagorean) numerology system. The life path number is considered the single most important figure in a personal numerology chart, meant to summarize your core personality, natural strengths, and general life direction based purely on the day, month, and year you were born.
The calculation reduces the day, month, and year of birth separately into single digits, then sums and reduces them again to arrive at a final number between 1 and 9, unless the calculation lands on a master number (11, 22, or 33), which is left unreduced due to its special significance in numerology. This calculator also flags whether your result is a master number and gives a short description of what that number traditionally represents.
Once you have your life path number, you can compare it with someone else's using the Numerology Compatibility Calculator, or explore a related but narrower numerology figure with the Birthday Number Calculator, which uses only your day of birth.
Why Use a Life Path Number Calculator?
Manually reducing three separate date components, day, month, and year, while correctly preserving master numbers at each step is easy to get wrong by hand, especially when a running total happens to land on 11 or 22 partway through. This calculator applies the reduction rules consistently every time, so you get an accurate result without tracking the math yourself.
It's commonly used to understand your own numerology profile for the first time, to prepare for a compatibility comparison with a partner or friend, or simply out of curiosity after seeing life path numbers discussed online or in numerology content. Because the calculation depends only on your date of birth, the result is fixed for life and worth calculating once and keeping for reference, see the Zodiac Sign Calculator if you want to build out a fuller personal profile alongside it.
Who Should Use This Calculator?
- Numerology beginners who want an accurate life path number without manually working through the digit-reduction rules.
- Anyone preparing a compatibility check before using the Numerology Compatibility Calculator with a partner or friend's number.
- Content creators and astrology writers who need to verify a life path calculation before publishing.
- People building a full numerology profile, combining this with the Birthday Number Calculator and Name Numerology Calculator for a complete picture.
- Anyone curious about master numbers, since this calculator explicitly flags 11, 22, and 33 results with their special meaning.

Formula & Methodology
Let D, M, and Y be the day, month, and year of birth. Define a reduction function R(n) that repeatedly sums the digits of n until the result is a single digit or one of the master numbers (11, 22, 33):
R(n) = n, if n โค 9 or n โ {11, 22, 33} R(n) = R(sum of digits of n), otherwise LifePathNumber = R( R(D) + R(M) + R(Y) )
Worked example: For a date of birth of November 29, 1988, Day = 29 โ R(29) = 2+9 = 11 (master number, stop). Month = 11 โ already a master number, stop. Year = 1988 โ 1+9+8+8 = 26 โ 2+6 = 8. Summing: 11 + 11 + 8 = 30 โ 3+0 = 3. The final Life Path Number is 3, "The Communicator."Frequently Asked Questions
