Fuel Cost Calculator
EverydayCalculate petrol or diesel cost for any trip in India. Enter distance, mileage, and fuel price to get exact fuel cost per trip and per month.
Cost per Trip
What is a Fuel Cost?
A Fuel Cost Calculator tells you exactly how much you will spend on petrol or diesel for any trip, daily commute, or monthly driving pattern — given your vehicle's mileage (km/L), the current fuel price (₹/L), and your distance.
For Indian vehicle owners, fuel is typically the single largest running cost of a car or two-wheeler. With petrol prices above ₹100/L in most Indian cities, even a modest 30 km daily commute costs ₹4,000–6,000 per month in fuel alone. This calculator makes that number precise and visible, so you can:
- Plan road trip budgets accurately before you leave
- Compare fuel costs for different routes (shorter distance vs. faster highway)
- Evaluate whether a cab/metro is cheaper than driving on a given day
- Track how a fuel price hike affects your monthly budget
- Compare running costs between vehicles before buying
For perspective on the broader cost of vehicle ownership, also see the Depreciation Calculator for vehicle value loss over time.
How to use this Fuel Cost calculator
- Enter the trip distance in kilometres. For a daily commute, enter the one-way distance.
- Enter your vehicle's mileage in km/L. Use your real-world average (check your trip meter and fuel tank fill-ups over a month for accuracy).
- Enter the current fuel price in ₹/L. Check your nearest pump; defaults to ₹103/L (approximate mid-2025 average).
- Enter trips per month — for a daily commuter on 22 working days, use 22 (one-way) or 44 (round trips counted individually).
- Results show: litres required per trip, cost per trip (highlighted), cost per kilometre, monthly fuel cost, and annual fuel cost.
Formula & Methodology
Fuel required (L) = Distance (km) ÷ Mileage (km/L) Cost per trip (₹) = Fuel required × Fuel price (₹/L) Cost per km (₹) = Fuel price ÷ Mileage Monthly fuel cost = Cost per trip × Trips per month Annual fuel cost = Monthly fuel cost × 12Worked example — Pune to Mumbai road trip (160 km each way), Toyota Innova (13 km/L), diesel ₹90/L:One-way fuel required = 160 ÷ 13 = 12.31 L Round trip fuel = 24.62 L Round trip cost = 24.62 × 90 = ₹2,215 Cost per km = ₹90 ÷ 13 = ₹6.92/kmFuel cost comparison — same 100 km trip at different mileages: | Vehicle | Mileage | Fuel @ ₹103/L | Cost/100 km | |---|---|---|---| | Honda Activa | 45 km/L | 2.22 L | ₹229 | | Maruti Swift | 22 km/L | 4.55 L | ₹469 | | Honda City | 17 km/L | 5.88 L | ₹606 | | Mahindra Thar | 13 km/L | 7.69 L | ₹792 | | Toyota Fortuner | 10 km/L | 10.00 L | ₹1,030 |
