About Finance & Global IDs Validators

The Finance & Global IDs category covers financial and government-issued identifiers used across India and internationally โ€” tax numbers, bank account identifiers, payment system addresses, and government-issued ID numbers. These are the formats that appear on invoices, in banking systems, on KYC forms, and in cross-border payment instructions, where a single incorrectly formatted character causes a transaction to fail or a filing to be rejected.

Indian financial identifiers

India has a rich set of structured identifiers that encode meaningful information in their format. The PAN Number Validator decodes the holder type from the 4th character. The GST Number Validator extracts the state code and the embedded PAN. The IFSC Code Validator identifies the bank from the first four characters. The UPI ID Validator maps known handles to their payment service providers. Understanding what these identifiers encode makes format errors much easier to diagnose.

International identifiers

The IBAN Validator covers 77+ countries and validates both the country-specific format and the mod-97 check digit. The VAT Number Validator handles 30+ countries with country-specific format rules and checksums for Germany and the Netherlands. The SSN Validator covers the US Social Security Number format and flags known structurally invalid values.

Format validation vs. verification

All validators in this category check structure only โ€” they confirm that an identifier follows the correct format for its type. They do not access any government or financial database and cannot confirm whether an identifier is registered, active, or belongs to a specific entity. For authoritative verification, use the respective issuing authority's portal: Parivahan for driving licences, GSTN for GSTINs, UIDAI for Aadhaar, and so on.

For network and developer identifiers (email, URL, IP address, UUID), see the Data category. For document and everyday identifiers (driving licence, vehicle registration, phone number), see the Everyday category.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Finance & Global IDs category includes eight validators: [PAN Number Validator](/pan-validator-india/) and [GST Number Validator](/gst-validator/) for Indian tax identifiers, [IFSC Code Validator](/ifsc-validator-india/) and [UPI ID Validator](/upi-id-validator/) for Indian banking and payment, [Aadhaar Number Validator](/aadhaar-validator/) for basic format checking of the Indian national identity number, [IBAN Validator](/iban-validator/) for international bank account numbers, [VAT Number Validator](/vat-number-validator/) for EU and global VAT registration numbers, and [SSN Validator](/ssn-validator/) for US Social Security Numbers.
The [PAN Number Validator](/pan-validator-india/) checks that a PAN (Permanent Account Number) follows the official 10-character format: five uppercase letters, four digits, and one uppercase letter. It also identifies the holder type from the 4th character โ€” P for individuals, C for companies, H for Hindu Undivided Families, F for firms, A for AOP/BOI, T for trusts, and so on. The validator confirms the structural format only; it does not verify that the PAN is registered with the Income Tax Department.
A GSTIN (Goods and Services Tax Identification Number) is 15 characters: the first two digits are the 2-digit state code (01 for Jammu & Kashmir, 27 for Maharashtra, 33 for Tamil Nadu, etc.), the next ten characters are the taxpayer's PAN, the 13th character is an entity number (1โ€“9 or Aโ€“Z for multiple GSTINs under the same PAN), the 14th is always Z, and the 15th is a checksum character. The [GST Number Validator](/gst-validator/) validates all of these components and identifies the state from the state code.
An IFSC (Indian Financial System Code) is an 11-character code used to identify specific bank branches in the NEFT, RTGS, and IMPS payment systems. The format is: 4 uppercase letters (bank code), 0 (reserved), and 6 alphanumeric characters (branch code). For example, SBIN0001234 identifies a State Bank of India branch. The [IFSC Code Validator](/ifsc-validator-india/) checks the format and recognises codes from major Indian banks. An invalid IFSC causes a fund transfer to fail at the bank's gateway.
An IBAN (International Bank Account Number) is a standardised format for identifying bank accounts internationally, used in most of Europe and many other countries. It starts with a 2-letter country code, a 2-digit check number, and a country-specific account number of up to 30 characters. The [IBAN Validator](/iban-validator/) validates the format for all 77+ countries that use IBANs, including the UK, Germany, France, UAE, and Saudi Arabia. India does not use IBAN โ€” Indian accounts are identified by account number + IFSC.
A VAT (Value Added Tax) number is the registration identifier issued to businesses registered for VAT in their country. EU countries require it for B2B invoicing across borders โ€” an EU business must include its VAT number on invoices to other EU businesses to enable the zero-rated intra-community supply treatment. The [VAT Number Validator](/vat-number-validator/) validates numbers for 30+ countries including all EU member states, Switzerland, and the UK (which uses a separate format post-Brexit). Each country has its own format, with some having additional checksum rules.
No. The [Aadhaar Number Validator](/aadhaar-validator/) performs a basic structural check: 12 digits, first digit non-zero. It does not access UIDAI's database and cannot confirm whether the number is issued, active, or belongs to a specific person. UIDAI explicitly discourages storing or transmitting Aadhaar numbers; this validator is appropriate for checking that an entered number has the correct basic format before submitting it to an authorised system. The validator does not perform the Verhoeff checksum validation โ€” consistent with UIDAI's guidance that the checksum alone is not a reliable indicator of a valid Aadhaar.
A UPI ID (Virtual Payment Address) follows the format username@handle, where the username is 2โ€“256 characters (letters, digits, dots, hyphens, plus signs) and the handle identifies the payment service provider (paytm, ybl for PhonePe, oksbi for Google Pay SBI, etc.). The [UPI ID Validator](/upi-id-validator/) checks the format and identifies the bank or payment provider from the handle when it is a known handle. Common formats include mobilenumber@paytm, name@ybl, and name@okicici.
A US Social Security Number (SSN) is a 9-digit number in the format AAA-GG-SSSS (area-group-serial). The [SSN Validator](/ssn-validator/) checks the structural format and flags known-invalid values: area 000, area 666, areas 900โ€“999 (which were never assigned under the original geography-based system), group 00, and serial 0000. It also flags the two widely published invalid SSNs used in advertisements. The validator confirms format validity โ€” it cannot verify whether an SSN is actually assigned to a person.
These validators are appropriate as a first-pass format check โ€” quickly identifying structurally invalid IDs before they are submitted to a KYC or compliance system. They are not a substitute for actual identity verification, which requires checking the ID against the issuing authority's database (UIDAI for Aadhaar, Income Tax for PAN, GSTN for GSTIN). Format validation reduces the volume of invalid submissions but does not confirm authenticity, current status, or identity matching.
No. All validation runs entirely in your browser. PAN numbers, GSTINs, Aadhaar numbers, IBANs, and other financial identifiers you enter are never sent to any server, logged, or shared. This is especially important for financial identifiers, which carry regulatory sensitivity. No personal or financial data leaves your device when you use these tools.
