AFT Calculator (US Army Fitness Test)
HealthScore the Army Fitness Test (AFT) events - deadlift, push-ups, sprint-drag-carry, plank, and 2-mile run - against age and sex-normalized standards.

What is a AFT?
An AFT Calculator scores the events of the U.S. Army Fitness Test โ the successor to the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT) โ using the same age- and sex-normalized, points-per-event structure soldiers see on the official Army scorecard. This calculator models five events: the 3-Repetition Maximum Deadlift, Hand-Release Push-ups, Sprint-Drag-Carry, Plank, and 2-Mile Run, each worth up to 100 points for a maximum combined score of 500.
The AFT reflects the Army's continued refinement of its fitness testing standard, building on data and feedback collected since the ACFT's rollout. Like its predecessor, passing the AFT requires clearing a minimum 60-point threshold on every individual event โ a soldier cannot offset a failing event with exceptional performance elsewhere.
This calculator uses a documented mathematical approximation of the official scoring standards, since the real Army tables are extensive age/sex-banded lookup charts. It closely tracks the difficulty curve of the published standards while making clear this is an estimate, not a replacement for the official scorecard.
How to use this AFT calculator
- Select your Sex (Male or Female) โ scoring standards differ by sex.
- Select your Age Group from the eight Army age brackets.
- Enter your 3-Rep Max Deadlift in pounds.
- Enter your Hand-Release Push-up count for the 2-minute event.
- Enter your Sprint-Drag-Carry time in seconds.
- Enter your Plank Hold time in seconds.
- Enter your 2-Mile Run time in seconds.
- Review the Total AFT Score and each individual event score, confirming all five clear the 60-point passing threshold.
Formula & Methodology
Scoring approach: Each event is scored using a piecewise-linear approximation between the 0-point, 60-point (passing), and 100-point (maximum) reference standards for a representative age/sex band, adjusted slightly by age group. Higher-is-better events (deadlift, push-ups, plank) score higher with more output; lower-is-better timed events (sprint-drag-carry, run) score higher with a faster time. Worked example: A 30-year-old female soldier deadlifts 150 lbs, does 25 push-ups, completes the sprint-drag-carry in 175 seconds, planks for 90 seconds, and runs 2 miles in 18:00 (1,080 seconds). 1. Each event score is interpolated against its age/sex-adjusted 0/60/100-point benchmarks. 2. Scores are summed for the Total AFT Score out of 500. 3. If every individual event scores 60 or above, the overall result is a PASS. Assumptions and limitations: - Uses an approximation of Army fitness test scoring standards, not the verbatim official lookup values โ treat results as a close estimate for training purposes. - Age adjustment applies a uniform easing factor per age band rather than the exact per-event age curve used in official tables. - Always confirm final scores against your official DA scorecard for record, promotion point, or school eligibility purposes.
