The calculator computes cross-sectional area based on the selected shape, then multiplies by length and the density of steel:

Round: Area = π × (Dimension 1 ÷ 2)²

Square: Area = Dimension 1²

Rectangular: Area = Dimension 1 × Dimension 2

Weight per Piece = Area × Length × 0.2836 lb/in³

Total Weight = Weight per Piece × Quantity

Worked example (round): For a 1 in diameter round bar, 120 in long, quantity 1: Area = π × (1 ÷ 2)² ≈ 0.785 in². Weight per Piece = 0.785 × 120 × 0.2836 ≈ 26.72 lb. Total Weight = 26.72 lb.
