Face Shape Calculator
HealthDiscover your face shape — oval, round, square, heart, diamond, or oblong — from your face length, width, jawline, and cheekbone measurements.
Measure face length from hairline to chin, and each width at its widest point (cheekbones, jaw, and forehead) using a flexible tape or ruler.
Your Face Shape
Balanced proportions with a gently narrowing jaw — considered the most versatile face shape.
For general guidance only. Face shape classification is approximate and based on simple ratios — real faces often blend multiple shapes.
What is a Face Shape?
A Face Shape Calculator classifies your face into one of six standard categories — oval, round, square, heart, diamond, or oblong — based on the relative proportions of your face length, cheekbone width, jawline width, and forehead width. Face shape is a widely referenced concept in hairstyling, eyewear selection, and makeup application, since different shapes are often paired with different style recommendations to balance or complement facial proportions.
This calculator takes four simple measurements, compares the relationships between them using standard proportional rules, and returns your closest-matching face shape category along with your length-to-width ratio.
How to use this Face Shape calculator
- Measure from your hairline to your chin and enter it as Face Length in centimeters.
- Measure across your cheekbones at their widest point and enter it as Cheekbone Width in centimeters.
- Measure across your jaw at its widest point and enter it as Jawline Width in centimeters.
- Measure across your forehead at its widest point and enter it as Forehead Width in centimeters.
- Read your Face Shape result, shown as the primary classification.
- Review the Length-to-Width Ratio and step-by-step breakdown to understand which proportions drove your result.
Formula & Methodology
Face shape is classified using proportional comparisons between four measurements: Length-to-Width Ratio = Face Length ÷ Cheekbone Width The calculator applies standard proportional rules: an Oblong shape requires a ratio of 1.5 or higher with similar jaw and forehead widths; a Round shape has a ratio below 1.25 with a soft jaw close to cheekbone width; a Square shape has a ratio below 1.35 with a strong jaw close to cheekbone width; a Heart shape has a wide forehead relative to cheekbones with a notably narrower jaw; a Diamond shape has cheekbones as the widest point with a narrower forehead and jaw; and an Oval shape applies when proportions are balanced without a pronounced pattern matching the other categories. Worked example: for someone with a 19 cm face length, 13 cm cheekbone width, 11 cm jawline width, and 12 cm forehead width: - Length-to-Width Ratio = 19 ÷ 13 = 1.46 - The jaw is moderately narrower than the cheekbones and the ratio is below the 1.5 oblong threshold — this proportion pattern classifies as Oval.
