According to SIAM data, India sells over 15 million two-wheelers annually, and a significant proportion are financed through bank loans or NBFC credit. The EMI formula that all lenders use is: EMI = P × r × (1+r)ⁿ ÷ [(1+r)ⁿ − 1], where P is the loan principal, r is the monthly interest rate (annual rate ÷ 12 ÷ 100), and n is the total number of monthly instalments. Interest as % of Principal expresses total interest as a percentage of the loan amount, giving a quick read on loan efficiency. On short tenures at moderate rates, this typically runs 8–18%.
