Happiness Score
What is a Happiness Score?
The Happiness Calculator is a quick self-reflection tool that asks you to rate your satisfaction across five commonly cited wellbeing areas, overall life satisfaction, relationships, physical health, work or studies, and sense of purpose, and combines your answers into a single happiness score out of 100.
This is an informal self-check tool, not a clinical instrument. For a more specific mental health screening, see the PHQ-2 Depression Screening Calculator, and always consult a qualified professional for anything beyond casual self-reflection.
Why Use a Happiness Calculator?
It's easy to have a vague sense of "I'm doing okay" or "I'm struggling" without pinning down which specific area is driving that feeling. Breaking wellbeing into five distinct categories helps identify where satisfaction is strong and where it might be lagging, giving a more structured starting point for reflection than a single vague mood check.
Who Should Use This Calculator?
- Anyone doing a quick personal check-in on how different life areas are going.
- People setting personal goals who want a structured starting point across multiple wellbeing dimensions.
- Journaling and self-reflection enthusiasts looking for a simple recurring metric to track.
- Coaches and educators introducing wellbeing self-assessment concepts in an approachable way.
What Insights Does the Happiness Calculator Give You?
The Happiness Score (0-100) is the headline result, giving an easy-to-read overall snapshot from your five answers. The Raw Score (out of 25) shows the unscaled sum of your five individual ratings, useful if you want to see exactly how the final score was derived or compare it against future check-ins on the same 5-25 scale.

Formula & Methodology
Each of the five questions is scored 1 (Very Dissatisfied) to 5 (Very Satisfied): Raw Score = Sum of all 5 ratings (range: 5-25) Happiness Score = ((Raw Score โ 5) รท 20) ร 100 Worked example, ratings of 4, 4, 3, 5, 4: Raw Score = 4 + 4 + 3 + 5 + 4 = 20 Happiness Score = ((20 โ 5) รท 20) ร 100 = 75 This reflects a generally positive self-rating across the five wellbeing areas.
