Set your filters above and click Generate Names to see scored suggestions.

What is a Baby Names?

A Baby Name Generator suggests real, popular baby names filtered by gender and cultural origin โ€” Indian, Sanskrit & Vedic, Western / American, British, German, or Italian โ€” then scores each suggestion on how easy it is to pronounce, how common or rare it currently is, and, if you opt in and enter one or both parents' names, how closely it echoes those names. Choosing a baby name is one of the more enjoyable but sometimes overwhelming parts of preparing for a new arrival, and a filtered, scored list turns that browsing into something closer to a game you can play with your partner or family rather than a chore.

This generator lets you narrow results by gender and origin, then click Generate Names to see a fresh, scored set โ€” nothing is shown until you do, so you always start from a clean slate. Ticking the "Include parents' names to personalize results?" box reveals fields to add each parent's name, boosting matching suggestions and unlocking invented "Creative Blend" name ideas. Once you've found favourites, shortlist them to share as an image, PDF, or WhatsApp message for family and friends to vote on. It pairs well with the Pregnancy Due Date Calculator for parents in the planning stages, and the Random Name Generator for other random-selection needs.

Formula & Methodology

The generator filters its curated name database by your selected gender and origin, scores every match, then optionally re-ranks the pool using parent-name affinity.

Filtering: names matching the selected Gender (including Unisex names when Boy or Girl is selected) AND the selected Origin are included in the pool.

Pronunciation score: calculated from syllable count, consonant-cluster density, and name length, then mapped to a label from "Effortless" (score 85+) down to "Distinctive" (below 50).

Parent Match score: for each parent name entered, the generator checks the candidate name's first letter, ending sound, overall shared letters, and length against the parent's name, then averages the results across both parents if two are provided. A name sharing Emma's first letter and several letters overall โ€” like Ella โ€” would score highly; a name with none of those overlaps would score low.

Vibe Score: a weighted blend of the pronunciation score, a rarity-balance score (names that are neither ultra-common nor ultra-rare score highest), and the Parent Match score when parent names are entered โ€” for example, a name with an Effortless pronunciation score of 90, a balanced rarity score of 88, and an 82% Parent Match would produce a Vibe Score in the high 80s.

Creative Blends: when both parent names are entered, each name is split near its middle at a vowel-consonant boundary, and the halves are recombined into new candidate names (for example, "Emma" and "Liam" can combine into a blend like "Emiam"). Candidates are filtered for pronounceability, length, and repeated-letter patterns before the top few are shown, clearly separated from the curated, real-name results.

Frequently Asked Questions

When you enter one or both parents' names, the generator compares each suggested name against them for shared starting letters, matching endings, and overlapping letters, then boosts names with a strong resemblance toward the top of your results. Each result shows a 'Family Match' badge with a percentage so you can see exactly how closely it echoes the name or names you entered.
The Vibe Score is a 0โ€“100 fun rating combining how easy the name is to say, how common or rare it is, and โ€” if you entered parent names โ€” how closely it matches them. It is a lighthearted way to compare options at a glance rather than a scientific ranking, so treat it as a conversation starter rather than the final word.
When you enter both parents' names, the generator splits each name near its middle and recombines the pieces into new portmanteau-style names, such as combining 'Emma' and 'Liam' into something like 'Emiam'. Every blend is checked for pronounceability before it's shown, and each one is clearly labelled as an invented combination rather than a real, recognised name.
Click the heart icon on up to six names to add them to your shortlist, then choose Download Image, Share via WhatsApp, or Download PDF. The image and PDF both list each shortlisted name with its meaning and Vibe Score, so family and friends can review and vote on a favourite before you decide.
It's a quick read on how easy the name is to say out loud, calculated from its syllable count, length, and any tricky consonant clusters, and labelled from 'Effortless' to 'Distinctive'. A 'Distinctive' label doesn't mean a name is a bad choice โ€” it simply flags names that take a little more practice to pronounce smoothly.
These rarity labels describe how commonly a name is currently used, ranging from 'Timeless Classic' (very widely used, instantly familiar) through 'Popular Pick' and 'Modern Favorite' to 'Hidden Gem' and 'Rare Find' (distinctive, less commonly heard). Choosing a more common or rarer name is purely a matter of personal preference โ€” neither is objectively better.
Alongside Indian (Modern) and Western / American, you can filter by Sanskrit & Vedic for classical and religious Indian names, British for traditional English names, German, and Italian. Selecting 'Any' mixes suggestions from every origin, and the Parent Match and Vibe Score work identically no matter which one you pick.
The parent-name fields are hidden by default so the tool starts with a clean, unbiased list rather than assuming you want personalization โ€” ticking 'Include parents' names to personalize results?' reveals both fields. Entering just one parent's name still boosts real names that share letters or sounds with it, while the invented 'Creative Blends' section only appears once both fields are filled in, since blending needs two names to combine.
No โ€” parent names you type are only used in your browser to calculate letter and sound matches for that session, and nothing is uploaded, saved, or sent anywhere. Refreshing the page or closing the tab clears the input completely.
You can generate between 6 and 40 names per request using the Number of Suggestions field, which is useful if you want a quick shortlist of 6 or a broad browsing session of 40. Regenerating with the same filters produces a freshly shuffled set each time, so you can keep exploring the matching pool.
Yes โ€” while designed for baby names, the same curated list of real names, along with the scoring and blend features, works equally well for naming a pet, a fictional character, or any project that benefits from a recognisable human name. The parent-name matching feature can be repurposed to blend any two source names, not just parents'.
The [Random Name Generator](/random-name-generator/) is typically used for picking a random person from an existing list (like choosing a raffle winner), while this Baby Name Generator suggests new name ideas filtered by gender and cultural origin, scored for pronunciation and rarity, and optionally blended with parents' names for naming a child.
