What is a Baby Names?
A Baby Name Generator suggests real, popular baby names filtered by gender and cultural origin โ Indian, Sanskrit & Vedic, Western / American, British, German, or Italian โ then scores each suggestion on how easy it is to pronounce, how common or rare it currently is, and, if you opt in and enter one or both parents' names, how closely it echoes those names. Choosing a baby name is one of the more enjoyable but sometimes overwhelming parts of preparing for a new arrival, and a filtered, scored list turns that browsing into something closer to a game you can play with your partner or family rather than a chore.
This generator lets you narrow results by gender and origin, then click Generate Names to see a fresh, scored set โ nothing is shown until you do, so you always start from a clean slate. Ticking the "Include parents' names to personalize results?" box reveals fields to add each parent's name, boosting matching suggestions and unlocking invented "Creative Blend" name ideas. Once you've found favourites, shortlist them to share as an image, PDF, or WhatsApp message for family and friends to vote on. It pairs well with the Pregnancy Due Date Calculator for parents in the planning stages, and the Random Name Generator for other random-selection needs.

Formula & Methodology
The generator filters its curated name database by your selected gender and origin, scores every match, then optionally re-ranks the pool using parent-name affinity. Filtering: names matching the selected Gender (including Unisex names when Boy or Girl is selected) AND the selected Origin are included in the pool. Pronunciation score: calculated from syllable count, consonant-cluster density, and name length, then mapped to a label from "Effortless" (score 85+) down to "Distinctive" (below 50). Parent Match score: for each parent name entered, the generator checks the candidate name's first letter, ending sound, overall shared letters, and length against the parent's name, then averages the results across both parents if two are provided. A name sharing Emma's first letter and several letters overall โ like Ella โ would score highly; a name with none of those overlaps would score low. Vibe Score: a weighted blend of the pronunciation score, a rarity-balance score (names that are neither ultra-common nor ultra-rare score highest), and the Parent Match score when parent names are entered โ for example, a name with an Effortless pronunciation score of 90, a balanced rarity score of 88, and an 82% Parent Match would produce a Vibe Score in the high 80s. Creative Blends: when both parent names are entered, each name is split near its middle at a vowel-consonant boundary, and the halves are recombined into new candidate names (for example, "Emma" and "Liam" can combine into a blend like "Emiam"). Candidates are filtered for pronounceability, length, and repeated-letter patterns before the top few are shown, clearly separated from the curated, real-name results.
